Snakebite Nocturne, 2025

$720.00

Oil on canvas, 16 × 20 in, © 2025 J.M. Bond.

Snakebite Nocturne was created for a special collaboration between Uncanny Art House and Scratch Kitchen & Cocktails, the speakeasy beneath Main Street in Norman, OK. The bar crafted a cocktail of the same name with gin, acidified rose syrup, crème de flora, Cocchi Rosa, absinthe, and bitters; while I developed this painting as its visual counterpart.

The design and central caduceus draws on apothecary labels of the Prohibition era, when “snake oil tonics” were prescribed as medicine but often concealed a strong cocktail.

During the exhibition, those who wished to try Snakebite Nocturne received a signed prescription slip from me, which they could then fulfill by walking down to the speakeasy at Scratch Kitchen.

ABOUT SNAKEBITE NOCTURNE

This limited edition cocktail was a collaborative effort between artist James M. Bond, Scratch, and Uncanny Art House, created to showcase the intersection of art and design in one neatly packaged premixed drink. James illustrated the image featured on the label, which Uncanny designed the packaging around, while Scratch crafted the flavors within. The cocktail was available by the glass or bottle at the Scratch Speakeasy Bar and accompanied by a note from Uncanny that allowed guests to purchase a bottle directly. Attendees could also enjoy this special cocktail the evening of the Masquerade at our catered cash bar.
